BDC were engaged by operators of a Floating Production Storage and Offloading Vessel (FPSO) to help identify and solve a production issue.
Existing industry experts, some with 30 years’ experience, had attempted to resolve the issue over a period of 10 months, however, they were unsuccessful.
An unknown issue was causing substandard production of the FPSO which led to large monetary losses for the operation. Traditional Root Cause analysis by numerous industry experts and engineers had failed to identify the root cause.
BDC’s Causal AI Engine discovered numerous known and unknown cause and effect relationships. One unknown causal driver was identified as the root cause behind the production loss. This Causal relationship resided in an operational area of the FPSO which BDC was told should be out of scope as there was no value in analysing data from that particular section. Once this was identified and addressed, a significant uplift in production was achieved.
The Causal AI Engine discovery process led to a swift root cause analysis that allowed the FPSO operator to intervene and achieve an uptime increase of 5% equating to a US$10.5m per month production improvement.
